First things first…if your track record shows you keep attracting jerks, something about you is likely to be drawing them in. Since I am writing from the male’s perspective, I know some of you would like me to tell you that some things about a man’s dress, walk, or talk could clue you in to him being a jerk. More significantly, I want to share three areas of your life that you can check to ensure you are positioning your heart against heartbreak.
Singleness Is Not A Disease
You have to stop your love affair with the idea of being in love. This is an emotional state that can cause you to lower your standards and overlook things that are obvious. It also keeps you wide open and vulnerable to men that God has not purposed for you. When you become okay with being single, you take the pressure off yourself and gain the ability to discern a jerk from a mile away.
Allow Trusted Friends In Your Business
Another way to spot a jerk is to have accountability. Ok Ladies, a guy who you know might be secretly interested in you is not a good candidate for an accountability partner! Dating and courtship is always an emotional period and it is very likely that you will tend to make emotional decisions. Having friends that you can trust and share your thoughts with will provide you a much-needed balanced and rational sounding board in your decision making.
Discover The Greatest Love Affair
The ultimate way to spot a jerk is to develop a greater relationship with God. As you get to know Him better, you will discover the true capacity of the intimacy you desire to share with a man. Godliness becomes your standard and jerks start to really stand out when you meet them. Remember God says you are fearfully and wonderfully made. You owe it to yourself to live your life like you are rare gem to be cherished!

My favorite line in this article is “You have to stop your love affair with the idea of being in love. ” I tell my friends this all the time. Once you do this, all of the misconceptions of relationships are removed and you will make better decisions. Good article!
